The biggest reason Abbey Road was such a significant work of art is George Martin! The masterful transitions from one incomplete song to the next in the medley on side two display more musicality than any of the individual songs and GM was the author and implementer of those transitions. It’s not an inflated honorific that he was called the fifth Beatle. I have always loved Abby Road. It’s my favorite album of all time. I have listened to it hundreds of times. But, I have to say I was completely blown away by the new remix. It brought out things I had never heard before, in the original mix. It sounded fresh and new. Giles did an excellent job and respected the source material enough, that he didn’t change it too drastically, but enough to make it seem like a modern recording. Thank goodness that more than an individual or group can be innovative. Just because we’ve always done things this way often gets in our way. The Beatles were geniuses. The mixing and stereo placement was more to do with George Martin than the Beatles. Although there were exceptions, George Martin had a mixing plan evident in most of their work. Many people don’t realize that the Beatles were always pushing the envelope in the studio on recording techniques.

The greatest anniversary
